Dr Valery Nzima Nzima - from Cameroon

Dr. Nzima Nzima graduated from medical school of the University of Yaoundé I in 2006. He worked as a clinician in several community and district health facilities facing epidemics, including Cholera, HIV/AIDS, Tuberculosis, Measles, Malaria, Yellow fever, and Poliomyelitis. 

To takle the problems at the roots, Dr. Nzima shifted from clinical work to the administrative side of the health system where he occupied the position of district health officer of Bonassama, Douala-Cameroon (2009 to 2012). His activities included auditing hospitals at regional level for the Results-Based Management project, and representing district health officers to national workshops on infectious disease control, reproductive health, and maternal health issues. Dr. Nzima has supported all cooperative projects at Bonassama district hospital with enthousiasm and energy

His hard and passionate work, as well as his achievements were rewarded with the best district officer of the littoral region award in 2010 and 2011; a Joint Japan World Bank scholarship in 2012 and a Fulbright award in 2012. 

Using his Fulbright staff development grant, he is pursuing an MPH program with concentration in Health Policy and Management at Georgia State University USA. 

Dr. Nzima remains intimately connected to Cameroon where he also completed his MPH program with a three-month practicum at the Ministry of Economy and Planning and at the Steering committee of the Health sector strategy of Cameroon with focus on national development and health sector policy.
