Infection is one of the three main killers of newborns in Western Africa. Clean water for hand hygiene is not always easily available. 70% alcohol with glycerin is very efficient for hand hygiene (WHO recommendations), easy to produce and relatively inexpensive. With 50.- CHF we can provide hand disinfection for up to 6 months for the Neonatology Unit at Bonassama District Hospital, Cameroon. Kangaroo Care also reduces neonatal infections.
Have a look at how the University Hospitals of Geneva made quintessential hand hygiene also fun, encouraging many others to do so. (Check out this entertaining video).
